Asia markets mixed as Shanghai slips and Hong Kong edges higher
Asian equities were split in early trade, with mainland China weaker while Hong Kong posted modest gains.
Asian equity markets delivered a mixed picture in MarketWatch’s latest market data. The Shanghai Composite fell about 0.85% to 4,049.91, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was slightly higher, up about 0.13% to 25,868.54.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 was narrowly lower (down about 0.09% to 53,700.39). Elsewhere, India’s Sensex gained roughly 0.75% to 76,070.84 and Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose about 1.38% to 4,935.97.
What to watch: investors will be tracking regional economic data, currency moves, and spillovers from U.S. interest-rate expectations. With global markets sensitive to growth and inflation signals, shifts in bond yields can quickly influence risk appetite across Asia.
