According to reporting cited by TechCrunch (from an incident report viewed by The Information), a Meta employee asked for help on an internal forum. Another engineer then asked an AI agent to analyze the question. The agent posted a response on its own, and its advice was acted on — inadvertently making large amounts of company and user-related data available to engineers who did not have permission to access it for roughly two hours.
Meta reportedly classified the event as a “Sev 1,” the second-highest severity level in its internal security escalation system.
